What is FUE Hair Transplant Method?
Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) hair transplant method involves removing (extraction) follicular units of hair from another part of the body (usually the back of the head) and implanting them into an area on the head or face.
It is the most advanced method of extracting and implanting hair. Innovative extraction technology is used helping to give the best natural looking results. FUE method is minimally invasive and comes with minimal scarring and reduced downtime.
How is the FUE method done?
FUE method works by extracting your existing natural hair from the back of the head (or elsewhere if needed) and transplanting them into the scalp area where there is balding or advanced hair thinning.
The hair transplant surgeon will anaesthetise the back of the head using local anaesthetic, so you don’t feel any pain. The surgeon and the team will then remove the hair from the back of the head. This usually takes two-three hours. Specialised, fine extraction instruments (usually less than 1mm in diameter) are used to remove the hair. You then stop for some lunch (40mins to an hour) before starting the next stage of the surgery.
The surgeon will then make incisions in the scalp, beard or eyebrow at specific angles and depth. Then the extracted hair follicles are implanted or placed into the incision sites made by the surgeon. This requires great surgical skills and technique in order to place the extracted hairs or hair grafts into the scalp or face at specific angles and depths. The surgeon and his team of hair transplant technicians often use magnification to assist the implantation of hair follicles. This helps to ensure that the implanted hair graft follicles can grow as naturally as possible and mimic existing hair.
FUE hair transplant surgery is a meticulous procedure that requires coordinated teamwork. Highly skilled, experienced hair transplant technicians assist the surgeon at each stage of the procedure. From start to finish, an FUE procedure at the British Hair Clinic takes between 7-8 hours.
Once the FUE surgery has been successfully completed, the surgeon and his team will provide you with a set of clear post-operative instructions. These include things like how to manage the wounds as they heal, medication and anti-biotic use, sleeping positions, washing instructions, exercise advice and general precautions.
What happens to the implanted hair after surgery?
Once the hair has been implanted into the incisions, in the coming days they will begin to embed into the incision sites. As the wound (scabs) heal, the implanted hair follicles take root. Two weeks after surgery, all of the implanted grafts have taken hold in the scalp. The scabs will have dried off and began falling off between days 10-14 after surgery. Over the coming weeks and months, the transplanted hair follicles will grow in stages.
